Ychaï is an audiovisual artist originally from Jerusalem, now residing in Brussels for the past 20 years.
With a varied academic background, from musicology to physical theater, programming and animation,Ychaï is dedicated to examining and dismantling limiting cultural and educational frameworks. He seeks to challenge the dominance of the nuclear family model and the burdens of patriarchy that affect all individuals. He also explores his relationship with spirituality, aiming to transcend the stereotypes shaped by his upbringing.
He is currently writing and co-directing an animated documentary that explores men’s relationships with their sexuality, questioning diverse aspects of masculinity.
Since 2024 he is part of School Of Love, an artist collective approaching love as a mode of engagement in political and social spheres.
Ychaï collaborates regularly with other artists as a video maker and editor. He directs animation clips for Johnny Haway (presented at the 2018 Paris Art Fair) and Odil (programmed in the web-series Mon Œil of the Centre Pompidou). He animated Babines by Emilie Praneuf, which was eligible for the Magritte du cinéma 2020.
